Coach Gravelle has a long history with Forest Lake Baseball as a player and coach. This is his 1st year as the Head coach. He has been a varsity assistant for 10 years – serving as the pitching coach. Twelve of his pitchers have gone on to pitch in college. As a player at Forest Lake HS he was a three year letter winner, Captain, all conference and a member of the Lions all state team. Played two years of College baseball at St. John’s University , before graduating from St. Cloud St. He participated in high school hockey (3 year letter winner, captain) and football (2 year letter winner, captain, all conference). Was inducted to Forest Lake Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.
Gravelle has worked the last 13 years as an Account Executive for adidas. His wife Jayne is a Forest Lake graduate and accountant for the Integris Group. They have two children - Lauren is in her 3rd year as a Nursing student at Concordia Moorhead. Brett is a sophomore at Forest Lake HS.
Forest Lake Baseball has a strong tradition – he is excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead this program.
Coach Henry is in his eleventh year as an assistant in the Forest Lake Baseball program. For the previous seven years, he has served as the sophomore head coach and a varsity assistant coach. He was a former Ranger baseball player and played several years of amateur baseball for the Forest Lake Lakers. In addition to his coaching experience at the high school, he has served as the Mickey Mantle (16 and under) and American Legion baseball team’s head coach, highlighted by winning the Mickey Mantle State Championship in 2004. He will be taking over as the VFW baseball team’s head coach in 2012. Kale spent nine years as a board member for the Forest Lake Baseball Association and has coached in the youth traveling program as well. Kale ialso serves as an assistant basketball coach at Forest Lake HS. He is currently in his eleventh year as a sixth grade teacher at Forest Lake Elementary.
This will be Alex’s first year as an assistant with the Forest Lake High School baseball program. As a player at Forest Lake High School he was a three-year starter, Captain, all-conference, all-state, and a member of the Lions all star team. Alex played college baseball at the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he was a four-year starter, three time all-conference, two-time Captain, and second all-time in hits for the Bulldogs. He currently plays for the Forest Lake Brewers; the local amateur town ball team. Alex also participated in high school football where he was a two-year letter winner.
Johnson is currently employed as a teacher at Pines School in Lino Lakes, MN.
Gary Storm is entering his 9th season as Forest Lake High School’s Head Junior Varsity Baseball Coach. Gary’s passion and commitment have helped develop the Junior Varsity program into a competitive, winning program with a 48 – 30 record the past 4 seasons. Gary has been active in the Forest Lake Baseball community serving as a community education coach, traveling coach and one of the founding Board Members of FLBA. Gary served as FLBA Treasurer and Tryout Director from 2000-2006.
Gary is a self employed Certified Public Accountant practicing in Forest Lake. His wife, Jane and he have lived in Forest Lake for 24 years. They have two children, Anna, who lives in Maple Grove with her husband, Darin and children, Sophia (2) and Lucas ( 2 mths) and Pete who lives in St. Louis Park. Pete is a IT Security Auditor with Clifton Larson Allen and was Captain of the 2003 Ranger baseball team.
Coach Kyle, born and raised in Forest Lake, has been active in the football and baseball programs all his life. He was on the 2004 State Champion Mickey Mantle baseball team coached by Kale Henry, his dad Scott and Gary Storm. Kyle played Varsity Baseball for Coach Raabe and Coach Gravelle winning two Conference Championships. After High School Kyle attended Penn State University to study Turfgrass Management. You can find him out working on the fields at Fenway Park or in the FLAAA Sportcenter in the Winter. Kyle is looking forward to his 2nd year as a High School coach and working with all the coaches and kids to help the Forest Lake baseball program remain one of the best in the state.
Valdie Magstadt has been an assistant coach in the Forest Lake High School baseball program for the past four seasons. This season marks the first that he will be the head coach of the sophomore team. Coach Magstadt has also been a part of the Forest Lake Summer Baseball program for the past two summers. He spent his first summer as the VFW coach and this past year as the head skipper for the Legion team. Coach Magstadt also played his college baseball for Northern State University a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Coach Magstadt teaches Special Education in the Forest Lake Area School District. He graduated with a Special Education degree and a minor in Coaching. Coach Magstadt lives in Wyoming, Minnesota with his wife, Carolin, who is a Program Manager for Life Time Fitness. Coach and his wife are expecting their first child in June.
While Coach Hagen spent one season coaching at Southwest Junior High, this is his first year working with the Forest Lake high school program. He was a two year letter winner in football and baseball at Northfield High School and played baseball all four years at Gustavus Adolphus College before earning his undergraduate there in 2010. He is in his second year of teaching Spanish at Southwest Junior High.
